Professor Huang was nominated under the theme "Investigating Haze Formation, Contributing to the Blue Sky Dream". His nomination highlights:

  • Returning to China at a critical moment – In 2014, during a period of severe haze pollution crises in China, Professor Huang made the resolute decision to return from abroad and has since dedicated over a decade to atmospheric research in Northwest China.

  • Groundbreaking haze research – His team was the first to reveal that secondary aerosol formation is the key chemical driver of haze pollution in China, proposing that controlling volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions is a vital pathway for air pollution mitigation.

  • Marine aerosol discoveries – His recent work on land–sea interactions discovered a novel chemical mechanism whereby the redox reaction between organic compounds and iodine drives new particle formation in marine environments.

  • Service to national and local air quality policy – As a member of the Shaanxi Provincial Air Pollution Prevention Expert Committee, he actively contributes to local air quality management efforts.
